Are you skiing or snowboarding and have a visual impairment? Make sure you have the right sports glasses that will give you comfort and convenience on the slopes. Winter sports glasses should be equipped with a special, lightweight sports frame that will fit properly to the face and protect the eyes from gusts of wind. The choice of lenses is very important, because not all of them are suitable for sports frames.

-Sports glassesare much more curved than the eyeglass frames we wear every day. The use of ordinary lenses would make the optical axes point to the sides, even though we are looking straight ahead. Such a situation leads to increased efforteyesight , which may result in visual disturbances, headaches and, in extreme cases, the complete inability to use glasses - explains Jerzy Kramarczyk, chief technologist at JZO, a manufacturer of eyeglass lenses.

Sports glasses have curved lenses

Relax lenses are curved to suit the shape of sports frames. Designers of eyeglass lenses took this into account when developing a special program that allows you to calculate the correct power of glasses and their construction for the individual needs of the user. To ensure correct vision, the power of the glasses is recalculated each time, ordering takes into account many more parameters than in ordinary glasses. Among other things, details such as the distance between the pupils and the lower edge of the frame, the distance between the lens and the eye, its inclination in relation to the face or the angle of the frame are taken into account are taken into account. Each glasses is individually adjusted to the person, thanks to which they ensure maximum comfort of use.

The color of the lenses matters

The color of the lenses should be selected in such a way as to enable a skier or snowboarder moving at high speed to quickly notice obstacles and react to threats. On the slope, the following can be dangerous: moguls, stones or unexpected behavior of other "road users". Since snow reflects the sun's rays and can cause glare, the lenses should be of a color that will compensate for this effect.
- Snow cover emits blue light unpleasant to the eye, so choose tinting, which will block them. The best for this purpose are shades of yellow, gold, light gray and pink. In addition, the lenses can be covered with a silver FLASH coating, which will not only give them an effective, mirror look, but also reflect light. Thanks to this, the sun will not tire the eyes, suggests Jerzy Kramarczyk.
Brown colors will highlight contrasts and improve visual acuity in conditions of strong sunlight. They will also improve depth perception, which is of great importance when we are skating over mountainous, unfamiliar terrain. Bright colors (e.g. yellow, orange or pink) are perfect for rainfall and cloudy and foggy days.

Important

For people who spend long hours outdoors, photochromic lenses, which change their color depending on the amount of sunlight, are a good proposition. The lenses turn very dark in the sun, which is why they act as sunglasses. When the sun's rays are lower, the lenses stay bright.
