In Poland, sex of people with disabilities is still a taboo subject, although fortunately it is starting to change. The first sign of these changes seems to be the latest research by a sexologist, prof. Zbigniew Izdebski, devoted to sexual relationships of people with disabilities. They prove that they are not (with exceptions) deprived of sexuality.
Not only that, the disabled have the same, and often even greater, sexual needs than he althy people. Larger, because the inability to meet them causes the accumulation of emotions and passions. Therefore, many of them use the services of escort agencies. From the research of prof. Izdebski shows that 20 percent. of clients of prostitutes are disabled.
Sex with motor disabilities and erection problems
Spinal cord injuries, usually resulting in wheelchair immobilization, do not have to be an obstacle to having sex. Also when in men they cause difficulties with erection or maintaining an erection or decreased sensitivity to stimuli (in both sexes). These are symptoms that can be remedied pharmacologically. The mobility impaired, people with multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, degeneration of the joints, as well as quite he althy people, are also able to experience orgasms. Those who do, and who do, admit that they are satisfied with their sex life.
Every fourth disabled person who took part in the research conducted by prof. Izdebski admitted that he is very satisfied with his sex life, 38 percent. said it was not bad, and half said that the partner fully accepts his disability.
Sex with disabilities - the most important thing is acceptance
Because this is what is most important in such relationships - the acceptance of the partner. If it does, sex is sure to be successful.
People with disabilities who declare satisfaction with sex emphasize that their partners accept behaviors such as help with catheterization, washing, and then putting them in appropriate positions. Because, as sexologists confirm, if there is a strong relationship, such physiology can even come closer. In some people with motor disabilities, as a result of the disease, completely new erogenous points may appear (which results from the displacement of nerve connections). And this means, among other things, that it does not have to come to a classical relationship for it to existsatisfaction. There are cases where the stimulation of places as distant as if from eroticism, such as the knees, led to orgasm.
In a situation where normal intercourse is possible, the only difficulty would be to get into the correct position. And it usually turns out that the difficulty is only in the head.
Sex with disabilities - how to overcome problems
Spinal cord injuries, paralysis (spasticity, stiffness, muscle weakness), swollen painful joints, muscle atrophy and other conditions that can cause sexual difficulties are in most cases irrelevant as they can almost always be treated. For example, if vaginal penetration is painful for a woman, for example because of bladder infections, contractions, or vaginal irritation or tearing, a vibrator or other techniques may help. It's a good idea to stick to regular bowel hours to reduce the risk of slip-ups during intercourse. If it is necessary to wear a catheter, it can be taped over during intercourse or moved so that it is not damaged during sex. Antispasmodics and vaginal lubricants can also help.
When you get tired quickly, you can use postures that do not require greater physical effort or reach for a vibrator. New variants of the ratio are recommended in order to avoid pain and pressure on the diseased joints in case of joint diseases. If the symptoms improve with heat, you can apply hot compresses or take a shared bath with your partner before having sex. In general, it is best to choose a time for sex when you feel good.
Sex with disabilities - this is important
There are approximately 5.5 million disabled people in Poland (approximately 14 percent of the country's population). And most of them are able to lead a successful sex life, although most often they are doomed to loneliness. In the Netherlands, an entire institution of women has been created to provide sexual services to the disabled. The client pays nothing, the ladies are paid from the state budget. Similarly, the Swiss organized an escort agency for the disabled. Service providers receive around EUR 100 per customer.
- And it's not just about creating such opportunities for disabled people, but about paying more attention to their sexuality, says one Swiss charity member who came up with the idea of creating such an agency.Note: Sex of people with intellectual disabilities is a completely different problem and requires separate treatment .
