The bridging pension is intended for people who, during their professional career, performed work in special conditions or of a special nature. What does this mean and who is eligible for a bridge?

The law on bridging pensions entered into force in December 2008. This is an early retirement pension for people who work in special conditions or of a special nature.

Old age bridging pension - who is en titled to it?

According to the regulations, men and women who are en titled to a bridging pension:

  • born after 1948
  • are over 55 for women and 60 for men.
  • performed work in special conditions or of a special nature for at least 15 years (periods of work are added up, but not including maternity, parental, military service, periods of care allowance or rehabilitation).
  • performed it at least 1 day before January 1, 1999 and after December 31, 2008, i.e. after the entry into force of the Act
  • have contributory and non-contributory periods of at least 20 years for women and 25 years for men
  • have terminated their employment, i.e. they are not employed anywhere.

It is important that the pension is granted to full-time employees. Nevertheless, contributions are paid by the employer to the Bridge Pension Fund even if the employee is employed only on a part-time basis.

Worth knowing

Work in special conditionsis the one that exposes the employee to factors threatening he alth, i.e. heavy physical work (in mines, steel mills, etc.), underground, in the air, in landfills, working on water and in the air, involving contact with asbestos, etc.

Work of a special nature is work that involves responsibility and requires psychophysical fitness: piloting airplanes, driving vehicles in public transport, working with explosives, working in emergency medical services and youthsocial therapy centers, correctional facilities, homes for the mentally ill, etc., and the work of medical staff in an acute-care emergency.

Old-age bridging pension - documents needed

A person who is en titled to a bridging pension and who meets all its conditions should submit an application to the Social Insurance Institution (in person or through the PUE system). The application must be accompanied by:

  • certificate of performance of work in special conditions or of a special nature,
  • employment certificates confirming the period of insurance before January 1, 1999 (if the initial capital is not established),
  • a document confirming termination of employment.

Is it possible to work with a bridging pension?

If the remuneration for work does not exceed 70% average wage, the person receiving it may receive a full bridging pension. Your benefit will be suspended if your wage is more than 130%. average monthly salary or if the person receiving the old-age pension returns to work in special conditions or of a special nature.
