I would like to know what causes aphthae in the mouth. I have a problem with aphthae at least once every two months. Initially, the canker is a small, small white spot. Over time, an ulcer with a diameter of 0.5 cm is formed. This pleasure only disappears after 2-3 weeks. It is accompanied by unpleasant pain and burning. I used various preparations, but without much results. I am concerned about these frequent relapses. Can such frequent occurrence of aphthae be caused by some disease?

The disease you write about is not dangerous, although unfortunately it can be very bothersome. The causes of aphthae have not been fully explained. In some cases, they are genetically determined. Treatment is difficult and basically does not go beyond immediate help. Unfortunately, there is no fully effective remedy that will eliminate aphthae once and for all. Relief can be provided by antiseptics.
