Can high blood pressure cause problems sleeping? About the same time it turned out that I had high blood pressure (taking medication), I started having trouble sleeping. I wake up a few times a night, I often go to the toilet (prostate ok - I examined it) and drink something because my mouth is dry. The worst thing is that when I wake up, I can't fall asleep, I feel such an internal tremor. I am 45 years old, I do not smoke, I do not drink (medications) now, work is stressful, I run every other day - about 10 km. I don't know if I snore, because I live alone.
Hypertension is a disease that often accompanies the obstructive apnea syndrome. Untreated apnea can worsen it and make it difficult to treat. The fact that at the time of diagnosis of hypertension you began to have problems with sleep, it may be a coincidence. The nocturnal symptoms that you describe may indicate the occurrence of breathing disorders during sleep, it would be worthwhile to diagnose, if only because untreated obstructive apnea may affect the treatment of hypertension, and on the other hand, treatment of apnea may have a positive effect on blood pressure.
