Can sarcoidosis be infected by cutting? My mom works in a butcher's shop.
Sarcoidosis is a chronic disease associated with altered immune system function, resulting in the formation of granulomas (i.e. small inflammatory lumps). Granulomas can appear in a variety of organs, but are most common in the lymph nodes and the lungs. Symptoms of the disease rarely appear suddenly - usually it develops gradually - fatigue, a sense of lack of energy, pain, dry eyes, cough, skin changes - the detailed picture depends on the location of the lesions. The cause of sarcoidosis is not known - possibilities such as genetic background, impaired immunity are mentioned, some scientists believe that atypical bacteria may be involved - but the theory is not very widely accepted. I don't think my cut while working in the butcher shop is causally related to the diagnosis of sarcoidosis.
