Inosine pranobeks (including Neosine, Groprinosin) is an active drug substance that has antiviral properties and strengthens immunity. Therefore, drugs containing Inosinum pranobexum can be used not only in the event of symptoms of a viral infection, but also as an adjunct in people with weakened immunity to reduce the risk of developing the disease.

Inosine pranobex(Inosinum pranobexum) is a combination of inosine and several other chemical compounds that together exhibit antiviral activity and strengthen the immune system. Until recently, preparations containing inosine pranobeks were available on prescription. Today, most of them - Eloprine, Groprinosin and Neosine - are available over the counter. Only the drug Isoprinosine is still obtained with a prescription. Changing the status of a drug from "prescription" to "OTC" means that the drug is safe to use for a strictly limited period of time, in specific conditions that are easily recognized by the patient.

Inozyna pranobeks - action

Inosine pranobeks fights viral infections by inhibiting the multiplication of viruses in the body.

In addition, inosine pranobex increases the body's resistance by stimulating it to work:

  • lymphocytes (white blood cells) - take part in a specific immune response, i.e. if the viruses manage to defeat the body's first line of defense (non-specific response), the second - specific response is triggered
  • macrophages - cells of the immune system that are involved in the body's first line of defense against viruses and other pathogens
  • NK cells (Natural Killer) - cells of the immune system that have the ability to spontaneously kill cells infected with the virus

In addition, inosine pranobex increases the level of antibodies and inflammatory cytokines that initiate the process of removing viruses from the body.

Inozyna pranobeks - indications for use

Drugs containing inosine pranobeks can be used as an adjunct in people with reduced immunity, incl. in young children whose immune systems are still developing and are therefore more prone to contracting the disease. Inosine pranobeks can be given to children from the age of 1.

Inosine pranobeks can be given to children from the age of 1.

Viral infections are another indication for the use of inosine pranobeks :

  • herpes or infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by the herpes simplex virus type I (labial herpes) or type II (genital herpes)
  • chickenpox and shingles
  • other infections caused by viruses (e.g. flu)
Worth knowing

With colds you don't need to reach for inosine right away

With the common cold, you do not need to immediately reach for inosine or other antiviral drugs. Only when the organism cannot cope with the infection and it is prolonged or it turns out to be much more serious, you can use this type of specificity.

Inozyna pranobeks - dosage

In children, 50 mg of the preparation is used per kg of body weight per day, administered in several divided doses. If your child has problems swallowing a tablet, you can crush it and dissolve it in a little water. However, for the youngest, the syrup works best. The recommended dose for adults is also 50 mg / kg body weight per day, i.e. 6 tablets, which should be taken 3 times a day, 2 pieces each.

Treatment duration is usually 5 to 14 days. After the symptoms have disappeared, the drug should be used for another 1 to 2 days.

Worth knowing

Only the use of the drug according to the schedule will be effective, i.e. the drug will have antiviral properties and increase immunity. Do not exceed this dose - taking one more tablet will not help, nor will it increase the effectiveness of the drug.

Inozyna pranobeks - contraindications

1. Drug allergy which may include skin rash, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue.

2. Gout attack or increased uric acid levels in the blood

Contraindications to the use of inosine concern mainly patients with gout and impaired kidney function.

Before using inosine, a physician should be consulted by patients who have had kidney stones, have impaired renal function, and those who undergo long-term treatment (longer than 3 months). In these cases, the doctor should regularly check the blood and monitor the kidneys.

Medical advice is also required for patients who use drugs for gout, drugs that increase uric acid excretion, drugs that suppress the immune system (so-called immunosuppressants), azidothymidine (a drug used in the treatment of AIDS).

Inosine pranobeks should not be taken during pregnancy andbreastfeeding.

Inosine pranobeks - side effects

Inosine, like all drugs, may cause side effects:

  • digestive system problems - nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain. Diarrhea or constipation appear less frequently
  • rash
  • dizziness and headache
  • tired or feeling unwell. Less often nervousness or vice versa - sleepiness or difficulty falling asleep (insomnia)
