Lent - formerly posts were stricter
In the past, no meat dishes were eaten on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and in some areas - on Wednesdays and Fridays, no food was eaten hot.
In some regions of Poland, as was the custom, all the kitchen utensils were scalded and scrubbed with ash to avoid contact with fat in fasting meals. In addition, the housewives made sure that the household members felt constantly hungry. This was the case until World War II. Currently, there are no such customs.
Fasting is also present in other religions. For example, in a Jewish house there must be no crumb of leavened bread, so the entire farmyard is thoroughly sweeped out and the leftovers are burned.
