Bariatric surgeries, i.e. surgical treatment of obesity in people with 2nd and 3rd degree obesity, not only lead to weight reduction, but also increase sexual satisfaction. This is the main conclusion from the research published in the journal "JAMA Sugery".
Almost 70 percent women and over 73 percent. males suffering from obesity who qualify for bariatric surgery complain of many sexual disorders, including decrease in sex drive. A team of researchers led by Dr. Kristine Steffen from North Dakota State University in Fargo (USA) decided to check how bariatric surgery affects the sexual life of obese people.
Specialists examined over 2,000 (!) Patients after bariatric surgery, including over 1.6 thousand. women and 429 men asking them detailed questions about sexual contact before and after surgery. It turned out that in one year after the surgery they improved in over 50% of patients. operated. Patients confessed that after the procedure they experienced an increase in libido, they also had more sexual contacts and felt greater satisfaction with intercourse.
Commenting on the results of the study, Dr. Kimberly Steele of Johns Hopkins Medicine in B altimore (USA) believes that greater satisfaction with sex after bariatric surgery is associated with weight loss and a better quality of life for patients. About 200,000 (!) Bariatric surgeries are performed annually in the USA, but mainly in women. Dr. Steele hopes that more men will opt for surgical treatment of obesity with this latest research.
