Medical advice over the phone to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus epidemic. From March 6, you can receive an e-prescription and e-leave via such a teleporter.

For several days, consultants of the recently established freeNational He alth Fund hotline (800 190 590)refer patients to he alth care facilities, which provide medical advice over the phone or online. It can be used mainly by chronically ill people who regularly take the same medications, but not only. According to the ministry, medical advice over the phone or online may also contribute to limiting the spread of the coronavirus in our country.

Medical advice over the phone - how does it work?

Already today, a primary care physician (i.e. a pediatrician, family medicine doctor and one specializing in internal medicine), based on a telephone or online interview, can issue an e-certificate or e-prescription to the patient, which he will receive via SMS -a or e-mail.

Medical advice over the phone - benefits

There are several advantages to introducing such a solution. Firstly, it will benefit people who are chronically ill (e.g. with diabetes or cardiovascular diseases), who need to see their GP from time to time for another prescription. As a result, the lines to GPs should shorten.

Secondly, medical advice over the phone or the Internet can also help reduce coronavirus and flu, which are very easy to catch in the doctor's waiting room, and isolate sick people. This is especially important now, when subsequent cases of both of these diseases are diagnosed in Poland, and subsequent people are subject to home quarantine.

In the case of coronavirus, such advice over the phone is also the safest way to report a suspected disease. If necessary, the NHF hotline consultants will refer the patient to the appropriate facility or recommend contacting the nearest sanitary and epidemiological station.

The NFZ hotline is not available for deaf people?

The Polish Deaf Association sent a letter to the prime minister on the so-called information omissions in the activities of the NHF hotline.

The website of the National He alth Fund (NFZ) currently offers information in sign language on what is a coronavirus, how it spreads and how to behave in order not to be exposed to infection. - Fortunately, because this is the only information available to deaf people. If someone would like to ask for details, report the disease at any time, it is not possible - said Krzysztof Kotyniewicz, president of the Polish Association of the Deaf (PZG) in the commentary for the Niepelnarańni.pl portal.

NFZ explains that in addition to information about the coronavirus in sign language, deaf people can use the help of a consultant who speaks this language. He gives advice via video chat. According to PZG, this is not a sufficient solution. It would be better for deaf people to introduce a simple connection with a sign language interpreter directly on the NHF website.

It also turns out that the NHF hotline consultants are not able to provide information about which infectious diseases hospitals have a sign language interpreter. Supposedly, the deaf person has to come to them with his own translator.
