- What should you know about wild forest fruits?
Fruits that cannot be eaten straight from the bush are forest fruits. There is a risk of eggs from a parasite that causes a potentially fatal disease - echinococcosis. Check which fruits are better not to eat straight from the bush.
Fruitsthat cannot be eaten straight from the bush are forest fruits. Along with unwashed forest fruits, you can eat a dangerous parasite that causes echinococcosis.
Parasite - tapeworm - is transmitted by wild animals - wild boars, foxes, raccoon dogs, and also by dogs and cats. The parasite is very dangerous for humans - it develops like a cancer.
Tapeworm eggs invisible to the human eye are attached to forest fruits. They can go there together with the feces of foxes or wild boars. There are more and more foxes in Polish forests, some of which are infected with the parasite. There is no chance that "something" will arouse suspicions on the berries.
After eating contaminated blueberries or wild strawberries, tapeworm eggs get into the blood and spread with it to various parts of the body - most often the liver. Under no circumstances should you eat directly from the bush and do not suggest that the farming is organic.
Wash your hands thoroughly after returning from the forest or any other trip to the fresh air. Infection with echinococcosis can occur through dirty hands.
When collecting forest fruit or mushrooms, special care should be taken in the following voivodships: Warmia-Masuria, Podkarpacie, Mazowieckie and Małopolskie.
In these areas, as reported by the Laboratory of Domestic Parasitosis of the Institute of Parasitology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the highest number of infected foxes and raccoon dogs was recorded. Of course, you can eat fresh berries and fruits, but you should rinse them thoroughly under running water beforehand.
Berries
A single blueberry or blueberry, the tufted duck is a small shrub. If they are present in large numbers, they create vast blueberries in the forests, where you can spend up to several hours picking fruit, i.e. berries. Berries can be harvested from July to early September.
Wild strawberries
We find wild strawberries on sunny forest edges and in clearings and pores in June and July.
In addition to wild species that grow on sunny forest edges and onclearings, we also distinguish the garden wild strawberry.
It should be remembered, however, that the fruits and leaves of wild strawberries from the home garden have weaker healing properties than those growing wild.
Blackberries
Blackberries in Poland can be found all over the lowlands and in the lower mountain parts, in forests, shrubs, balks and roadside roads.
In our country there are nearly 50 species of blackberries, many of which can be used in medicine.
Raspberries
The raspberry in Poland grows quite commonly in the lowlands and in the mountains, up to the mountain pine zone, in forests and shrubs, and in the forest clearings. It bears fruit in July and August.
Lingonberry
Lingonberry is also a small shrub, growing in forests on sandy soils and peat bogs, the fruits of which are small red or red-white berries with rather hard skin.
