After the vaginal removal of the uterus, I developed a complication in the form of Fournier's gangrene. I am not an alcoholic, drug addict, I do not have diabetes, I am well nourished, I lead a fairly he althy lifestyle. Please explain what could have caused this complication and is Fournier's gangrene a gas gangrene, or just ordinary gangrene (or maybe it could be gas gangrene and ordinary wet gangrene)?
Fournier's gangrene is a necrotic inflammation of the connective tissue and fascia caused by mixed flora, aerobic bacteria (streptococci, staphylococci), anaerobic bacteria and fungi. It is a serious complication. It requires intensive treatment.
I don't know what caused this complication in your case. Circulatory disorders, which are usually associated with the operation you have undergone, may be a contributing factor.
