Running clothes do not have to cost a fortune - we suggest which items to buy in order to train comfortably and at the same time not to spend too much. The most important thing in a running outfit are shoes and they are worth investing in, while the rest of the outfit does not have to come from the top shelf.

Running outfitcan turn out to be a considerable expense, especially for a beginner runner who has to complete all the items of clothing in one go. Shoes, T-shirt, shorts, socks, additional accessories, such as a running belt or a heart rate monitor - everything seems necessary. Are you sure? What is worth buying for a start?

Beginner's jogging suit

If you are taking your first steps in the field of running, do not start by buying modern, expensive clothes and accessories. It may turn out that you will not train as systematically as you planned and the money spent on clothing and equipment will turn out to be down the drain.

Focus on the basic features that a running suit should meet - lightness, airiness, comfort. Only as your condition improves, you can buy more expensive and professional clothes.

The only exception are shoes - they are definitely worth investing in, even if we do not plan to marathon only recreational jogging, e.g. to lose weight. Why is this particular element of the outfit so important?

Base of a running suit - shoes

Good running shoes cost at least PLN 150-200. You must be prepared for such an expense for several reasons:

  • Shoes have to absorb the foot well- most people run on hard surfaces, and each hit of the foot on the ground puts a strain on the joints. If the shoes do not absorb shock well, you may start to feel pain. Check: How to choose running shoes - a guide in 4 steps
  • Shoes must hold the foot well- the upper of the shoe must be flexible enough to provide the feet with comfort, and on the other hand enoughdurable for stability and support. Cheap models usually lose their shape very quickly, which creates a risk of injury (the foot "flies" to the sides, there is no control over the movement).
  • The shoes must be perfectly fitted- this means not only the correct size (at least half the size larger than the shoes worn on a daily basis), but also the selection of the shoe for the type of foot (supination , pronating, neutral). Therefore, it is best to choose running shoes in well-stocked stores, under the supervision of a professional adviser who will help you determine your type of arch.

Cheap supermarket shoes costing PLN 50 will not meet the above requirements. Usually they are also designed for jogging a maximum of 2-3 times a week for half an hour, otherwise they wear out very quickly.

By investing more in running shoes, you will be sure that the training will not hurt you, and you will also feel obligated to use them and it will be easier for you to stay systematic.

T-shirt and jogging pants

The jogging suit also consists of a T-shirt and pants. Only which one to choose: tight and close-fitting or loose? Made of cotton or artificial materials? Short or long?

The cheapest and most practical option is to stock up on the following items of clothing:

  • short-sleeved T-shirt- definitely not cotton, because cotton absorbs sweat and interferes with the heat exchange process. The T-shirt should fit snugly and be made of a thermoactive material that provides adequate ventilation and wicks sweat to the outside. You can buy a good quality thermal T-shirt for as little as PLN 30-40.

  • running sweatshirt- it will work on slightly cooler days, as a separate layer or as an additional covering put on a T-shirt. It should also be made of synthetic, moisture-wicking materials, but slightly looser. An additional advantage will be ventilation openings ensuring breathability. The cost of a universal sweatshirt of this type is about PLN 70.
  • running leggings- tight pants are the best because they quickly evaporate sweat from the body surface and do not restrict movement (unlike voluminous cotton tracksuits). Again, it is advisable to choose pants made of breathable materials. Rather, buy the long or 3/4 length ones (capricorns), they are more versatile. Pockets or a mini-purse for keys on the inside will be an advantage. On especially warm days, you can replace them with regular, loose-fitting shorts. Cheap breathableleggings cost about PLN 30-40.

This running outfit will be best for spring, summer and early autumn. Of course, as the temperatures drop, you need to think about buying slightly warmer clothes, e.g. a thermo-active long-sleeved t-shirt, leggings with a thin fleece lining, hats, gloves and thicker socks.

However, if you are just starting to run and you are not sure if you will survive until winter, get the given set of clothes for now. Over time, you can gradually buy more outfit elements.

This will be useful to you

Sports bra - an important element of a runner's outfit

While running, the breasts bounce off the body by an average of 14 cm. This means that during an hour of running training, your bust travels a distance of approx. 430 m, and your large breasts even 1.5 km! Hence, it is so important that the bust is stabilized.

An ordinary bra will not provide such support, so be sure to get a sports bra. Not only will it make you more comfortable, but it will also help to make your breasts firm and elastic. It will also reduce the risk of abrasions and bruises.

Additional running clothes

The components of a running suit discussed above are an absolute must-have. As it is not difficult to count, the total cost of such a set together with footwear is about PLN 300. If you have more money to spend, you can also buy:

  • thermoactive socks- reduce foot sweating. The cost is PLN 20-30 per pair.
  • sports watch with a heart rate monitor- in the era of smartphones and running applications, it is not necessary, but it is definitely more convenient to use. Pricing varies by feature and manufacturer.
  • belt for a bottle with a drink- it will come in handy during long runs. The cheapest ones can be bought for just PLN 15.
  • armband with a place for a smartphone- necessary if you want to have a phone with you during the run. In this case, you can choose the cheapest product - it is enough for the band to be Velcro and have the right size. The price is around PLN 19.
Important

Remember that sunglasses and sun protection are essential when running in summer. To do this, always apply sunscreen on the exposed skin - not only your face, but also your arms and legs. A multifunctional so-called a puff that we can use as an earband or a handkerchief to protect against the sun.
