Mom has bowel cancer in the rectum. In a few days, he starts radiotherapy. After radiotherapy is completed, he is scheduled to remove the tumor along with the adjacent lymph nodes. After the surgery, I still need chemotherapy. Therefore, I have a warm request to indicate what type of diet she needs at each of the above-mentioned stages of treatment. I would like to add that a few years ago my mother already had colon surgery. Does age matter when choosing food? Currently, mum is 65 years old. Yours sincerely Jarek

Hello, unfortunately I have too little data to say exactly what diet would be right now for your mother. However, it is worth paying attention to several aspects: 1. During radiotherapy to the lower part of the abdominal cavity, dairy and all dairy products are usually excluded. It is worth asking the attending physician about this. Excluding dairy products from the mother's diet automatically means that the diet may be lower in protein, which is not beneficial in oncological treatment. Therefore, it is worth taking care of increasing the amount of protein from other sources, e.g. fish, eggs or lean meats. 2. Chemotherapy can cause various side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. It is worth adjusting and modifying your diet to respond to these side effects. Please remember that the dietary goal is to nourish your mother in such a way that the body weight does not decrease, that is, to prevent malnutrition (also during radiotherapy). 3. Products with raw eggs, raw fish or raw meat are not recommended at any stage of treatment. The diet should be easily digestible, as natural as possible. In the case of progressive weight loss, it is worth introducing nutridrink preparations. However, it is necessary to match them well with the digestive abilities of your mother. Best regards
