Exactly on March 13 I underwent appendicitis surgery - I was diagnosed with acute purulent appendicitis. On Thursday, April 26, I had a control blood test - the blood count was ok, but the ESR is 31 (before the surgery it was 21 in the control tests). My question is: is it possible for the inflammation to persist for so long after surgery?
Any doubts related to your he alth and the course of convalescence after appendicitis surgery should be clarified with your family doctor.
To determine the cause of the persistence of elevated ESR, it may be advisable to perform a physical examination in the doctor's office and possibly perform control blood tests. Elevated ESR normalizes at a slightly slower pace than the resolution of other inflammatory symptoms, such as increased body temperature and pain in the inflamed area.
Besides ESR, there are also other measures of inflammation, its presence or resolution, such as leukocytosis and CRP. Their performance can help in determining whether the increase in ESR is associated with the slow regression of inflammation, or if there are other factors contributing to this result.
