The Beatles, museums and the largest cathedral in the Islands. It's Liverpool - a port city in the North West of England.

Liverpool is mainly associated with the legendary band The Beatles. This is where Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr were born and played together. The presence of the famous four can be seen at every turn. Every year, thousands of tourists come to the city to discover the places associated with the band. The Beatles family homes are a must-see during the trip. Two of them, Mendips and 20 Forthlin Road (the homes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney) have been opened to the public. You can check the conditions in which young John and Paul grew up, see old family photos and listen to funny anecdotes from their childhood. However, we will experience a real journey in time at The Beatles Story museum. The exhibitions tell the story of the band, and thanks to the faithfully recreated realities of those times, we have the impression that we are participating in the events from years ago. An additional attraction is an audio guide, also available in Polish.

In the footsteps of the Beatles

After visiting the museum, real fans will surely head out into the city to find the traces of the legendary four. Mathew Street, known as the band's birthplace, is a must. This is where The Cavern pub is located, where the Beatles started their careers and in which they have performed 292 times. You cannot miss the nearby pub, The Grapes, where they liked to hang out after the shows. The famous The Beatles Shop is also nearby, where fans can buy souvenirs of the band. Real Beatles lovers can also try to find places related to their most famous songs. A lot has changed in the city since then, but at the roundabout on Penny Lane, immortalized in the song of the same name, time seems to have stopped. It is also worth jumping to Strawberry Field. It is a pity that the title strawberry fields are no longer there. However, you can always take a picture at the famous red gate and hum… "Strawberry Fields Forever". In search of the Yellow Submarine you have to go to Liverpool John Lennon Airport. In front of the entrance to the building, a model of the famous yellow submarine has been placed.

Harbor full of museums

The legendary Beatles are certainly among the city's top tourist attractions, but the 800-year-old old man Liverpool (this year the city celebratedjubilee) has much more to offer. The city primarily focused on its port character and favorable location at the mouth of the Mersey River. The well-kept coastline and port are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Various museums are concentrated in Albert Dock, such as Tate Liverpool (the largest contemporary art gallery in England after London), the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the slavery museum and the hit The Beatles Story. You can spend a full day in the museums, but take a break for the 1-hour river cruise on the Mersey Ferry, which departs from the nearby Pier Head. In the evening, the characteristic red brick buildings as well as colorful boats and sailboats are picturesquely reflected in the water. Then the Albert Dock changes its character and the center of the gallery becomes a favorite place for walks and meetings in pubs. The time is measured by an illuminated clock with the country's largest clock face in the famous Liver Building.

The largest cathedral in the Islands

When visiting Liverpool, you cannot miss Hope Street, which is Hope Street that connects two cathedrals erected at its ends. The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral, commonly known as "Paddy's Wigwam" (wigwam-shaped), boasts the largest stained glass vault in the world. Every Sunday at On the 13th, a Polish Holy Mass is celebrated here. The Anglican Liverpool Cathedral is the largest in Great Britain and the fifth largest cathedral in the world. Weighing 31 tons, the bells are the heaviest in the world! Architecture enthusiasts should not miss the neoclassical St. George's Hall, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Right next to it is the Walker Art Gallery, known as the National Gallery of North England. In search of contemporary art, go to the FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology), a modern art center on Wood Street. And on the occasion of the European Capital of Culture year, Liverpool has prepared many additional attractions and cultural events for tourists. You can find out about all of them at the well-organized tourist information points.
