Researchers at Bar Ilan University have found that vitamin D deficiency increases the risk of severe COVID-19 and death as a result of the disease by up to 14 times. - The results of our analysis indicate that vitamin D levels should be kept within the norm, especially among those infected with SARS-CoV-2 - said one of the authors of the study.

This is another study that looked at the effects of vitamin D levels on the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 infection. A total of 1,100 people who tested positive for coronavirus took part in the analyzes. The research was conducted between April 2022 and February 2022.

The publications show that in people who suffer from vitamin D deficiency, the death rate as a result of COVID-19 infection is 25.6 percent. For comparison, among patients with a sufficient level of this vitamin, the indicator is 2.3%.

Scientists have observed that "vitamin D helps people with COVID-19 by strengthening the immune system that fights viral pathogens that attack the respiratory system." According to the researchers, "the results apply to both the Omicron and the previous variants."

- The results of our analysis indicate that vitamin D levels should be normal, especially among those infected with SARS-CoV-2, said Dr. Amiel Dror of the Medical Center of Galilee, where the study was conducted.

The study was published in the scientific journal PLOS ONE.
