In a recent study published in the journal Allergy, a team of scientists from the Medical University of Vienna found that there are seven 'forms of the disease' - in other words symptoms - in mild COVID-19. What are the symptoms?
The study was conducted by scientists led by the immunologist Winfried F. Pickl and allergologist Rudolf Valenta (both from the Center for Pathophysiology, Infectiology and Immunology MedUni Vienna), and 109 convalescents and 98 he althy controls took part in it. From the surveys, researchers identified seven groups of mild COVID-19 symptoms. These symptoms are:
- flu-like symptoms- with fever, chills, fatigue and cough
- cold-like symptoms- with rhinitis, sneezing, dry throat
- joint and muscle painof varying severity
- conjunctivitis
- breathing problems
- gastrointestinal problems(including diarrhea, nausea)
- loss of smell and taste .
- In the latter group, we found that the loss of smell and taste mainly affects people with a "youthful immune system" as measured by the number of immune cells (T lymphocytes), said Winfried F. Pickl, quoted by Sciencedaily.com.
Researchers do not specify how many of these symptoms should lead to a doctor's consultation. However, they believe that their discovery will help in the development of an effective treatment.
