Heviz Spa is probably the most famous Hungarian spa in Europe. It belongs to the Balaton Mountains, although it is eight kilometers away from the Hungarian lake. He is famous for Lake Hévíz - the largest thermal lake in the world.

SpaHévíz is the largest and probably the most famousHungarian spa , located in the western part of the country, west of Lake Balaton. However, the spa is famous for another lake - the world's largest thermal lake Hévíz (which can be translated as "hot water", "thermal spring"). The Hévíz spa is located 200 km from Budapest and Vienna, 620 km from Krakow and 780 km from Warsaw.

Heviz Spa - healing properties

The spa is famous for the thermal lake Hévíz, which is the largest biologically active natural thermal lake in the world, with a summer temperature of almost 38 ° C.

The temperature of the world's largest healing lake does not fall below 24 ° C even in autumn and winter, so we do not have to give up outdoor bathing, even on cooler days.

Lake Hévíz covers an area of 4.4 hectares. At its deepest point there is a spring cave at a depth of 38.5 m. The water contains sulfur compounds and minerals. There are two types of spring in the cave - one on the eastern side with a temperature of 17.2 ° C, and on the west side 38 ° C. The water temperature on the surface in summer is 37-38 ° C, while in winter 23-25 ° C. It is constantly replenished with fresh water from hot springs located a kilometer underground. The flow is so strong that a complete replacement occurs every 72 hours.

Warm water from the bottom rises to the surface and cold water moves down. This bidirectional flow and the oval shape of the lake turns the water mass to the right and keeps it in constant motion. The effect of the flow is to equalize the temperature of the water and the content of gases and mineral s alts dissolved in it, and create a massage effect.

The lake is a developed bathing area surrounded by wooden houses with changing rooms, changing rooms and cafes. Patients soak in the water holding special plinths or swim on inflatable wheels. Without leaving the water, you can go outside or stay inside the buildings. Richwith sulfur and carbonic acid, the lake's surface is covered with red Indian water lilies. Hévíz is the only place in Europe where these flowers are grown outdoors.

How to get there?

You can reach Heviz by your own car or by plane. The airport located 17 kilometers from the city (which is a benefit of the former Soviet military base) is flown by planes from Budapest, there are also charter flights from German airports. It is good that, after years of bewilderment with the possibility of trips to Western European countries, Poles are returning to the once most popular destinations. One of them is Hungary. It is worth going there, because although Hungarians speak a completely incomprehensible language, they get along with us without any problems. They just like Poles. They are like in the popular proverb: "to the saber and to the glass".

The spa company Hévíz operates here, which includes the Hotel Spa Hévíz and the St. Andrew.

Worth knowing

Worth seeing

Guests bored with the healing life set out to conquer Lake Balaton, which is only 6 km from Hévíz. It is the largest lake in Central Europe. Although malicious people call it a mud puddle or the largest pond in Europe, it is the real pride of Hungarians. Children love splashing in warm water for hours, young people appreciate the charms of hot, Balatonic nights. The lake is an ideal place for sailing, windsurfing and boat trips.

Eager for romanticism set off to the northern shore of the lake - unlike the flat southern shore, it climbs quickly. The local landscapes are impressive. Especially when you sit down in the evening, with a glass of delicious Tokaj in your hand, on the terrace of one of the restaurants surrounded by green vineyards. Probably the most picturesque is the Tihany peninsula, it is also a great place to buy souvenirs from Hungary - folk ceramics, tablecloths and napkins are interesting. You can get to the peninsula from other Balaton villages by a cruise ship.

Enthusiasts of active recreation highly appreciate the perfectly prepared bicycle routes on the Balaton, horseback riding enthusiasts should also come back from Hungary - practically every few kilometers there are advertisements encouraging them to use the stud's services.

Near the spa there is a wine district - Egregy, which can be reached on foot or by the sightseeing train. Here, while consuming a delicious dinner, you will definitely regain strength after a "tiring" day, and with a glass of fine wine you will be able to listen to the famous Hungarian live music.
