Lemon balm tincture can be prepared using several different recipes.

Lemon balm tincture with mint, cinnamon and St. John's wortIngredients:

  • a dozen lemon balm leaves (approx. 200 g)
  • a few mint leaves
  • pinch of St. John's wort (can be dried)
  • a piece of cinnamon stick (approx. 1/3)
  • half a liter of spirit
  • glass of water
  • glass of sugar
  • lemon juice

Preparation: Cover the herbs and brew them with cinnamon, then filter through a fine strainer and cool. Mix the sugar with water, bring to a boil in a pot until a syrup is formed, remove the white foam and add lemon juice. Pour the syrup into a jar, add the cooled herbal infusion and spirit. Spin and set aside in a dark place for a dozen or so days, shaking the jar from time to time. After this time, the tincture will be ready and you can pour it into bottles.

Lemon balm tincture with spirit

Ingredients:

  • A dozen whole lemon balm sprigs
  • Half a liter of spirit
  • Half a liter of water
  • 250 g sugar

Preparation: wash the lemon balm, tear off the he althy leaves from the twigs, put them in a large jar, then dilute half a liter of spirit with 250 ml of water and pour the liquid over the lemon balm leaves. After three days, strain the tincture, boil 250 ml of water with sugar until a syrup is formed - cool it and mix with alcohol.

This tincture can also be prepared in a slightly different way: after rinsing, put fresh lemon balm shoots (leaves with twigs) in a half-liter bottle of spirit, then screw the cap and put it in a dark place for two months. After this time, pour the liquid into a larger bottle and fill it with a syrup made of 250 ml of water mixed with a few spoons of sugar and set aside for another two or three months. If you want the tincture to be less powerful, you can use more water and less spirit.

Lemon balm tincture: contraindications

It is worth remembering that lemon balm tincture is prepared on high-percentage alcohol. Therefore, you should not overdo it with its amount - a glass a day is enough, e.g. before going to bed. You can also drink it, just like other tinctures: dissolve a few or a dozen drops in a glass of water and drink it before or after meals.

Lemon balm tinctures cannot be drunk by children and pregnant or lactating women. It is also discouraged from people who regularly take medications (e.g. to lower blood pressure or sedatives), because in combination with lemon balm they may cause drowsiness or other side effects, so if you suffer from chronic diseases, ask your doctor for permission to use such a tincture.
