I'm 17 years old, I'm a boy. I have a situation where I slept with my mother until I was 16. Not only with her, but also with my dad, with my brother, with a friend (but these are the evenings spent playing games, because there was only one couch), I slept myself, but it was very rare. Most of those evenings, however, were slept with my mother. My question is: how does this affect me? I would like to add that when I slept with my mother, my father slept in the living room in front of the TV. Even when I didn't sleep with her, Daddy slept in the living room most nights anyway. Now I asked my mother to go to a psychologist, but she doesn't want to and says it's a stupid thing. However, I would like to know what to do with this situation. I would also like to write that from the beginning I used to enter the bedroom to my mother's bed very often, but there were also nights when I tried to fall asleep alone in my room, but in most cases I went to her.

Please think and remember if in your childhood (as a small child) you or your mother observed symptoms such as: refusing to sleep in your bed; recurring nightmares where separation from loved ones is the main topic; serious anxiety when being separated from loved ones due to the departure of the child or family members, or when such separation is expected; overly worrying about the safety of a family member; worrying about getting lost; refusing to go to school; timidity and reluctance to be left alone; frequent abdominal pain, headache; complaints about a he alth condition; muscle aches or tension; overly worrying about your safety; excessive "stickiness" even when the child is at home with parents; symptoms of panic or outbursts of anger in a situation of separation from loved ones.

If so, it is called separation anxiety that occurs in young children. It should also be remembered that if such anxiety occurs in older children, they could develop separation anxiety disorder. You should then contact a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist as soon as possible for diagnosis and further therapy. Such fears are mainly related to the lack of security in the family, divorce or separation of parents, illness or death of a family member, fatigue and changes that occur in life, e.g. in preschool. Ask mom or any of themyou had these symptoms when you were little. Did they also occur in kindergarten? And was there the situation that I mentioned earlier that this fear could have occurred in you? If so, I suggest that you contact a psychologist as soon as possible.
