My 12-year-old grandson with ADHD is already addicted to computer games. My grandson spends a lot of time with me, because I often take actual, but not official, childcare (school and he alth problems). How are these addictions treated? Should I just throw away all my computers, tablets, and smartphones so that he won't see them?
Addiction is an emotional problem. Very often addiction is caused by family problems, e.g. addiction of one or both parents, lack of a sense of security, love, acceptance or parental mental illness, divorce or separation. A control of this type, such as taking a child's laptop or phone - will not solve the emotional problem they are struggling with, and therefore I recommend consulting a specialist, i.e. a child psychologist. I also recommend that you spend more time with your child. I also recommend to my grandchildren artistic activities, such as art or music, because, as you know, they stimulate the imagination, teach creativity and calm down internally. Thus, the grandson will spend less time in front of the computer. Alternatively, if the grandson is hyperactive, sports activities such as football or basketball are a good way out of this situation. It is known that sport reduces tension and stress.
