What toys to buy for babies

Toys for newborns should be in strong, contrasting (e.g. black and white) or intense colors - red, yellow, green. The ones with strongly accentuated faces, e.g. blocks with drawn eyes or lips, work well, because babies focus their eyes on such elements. About 3-5. month of life, when a child begins to explore the world not only by sight, but also by touch, it is worth buying toys of various textures, e.g. coarse or corrugated. Later, around 5-6. month, when the baby is able to grasp objects, he finds attractive toys that make sounds when squeezed or shaken.

Important

Inspectors will control the quality of the product and if they have any reservations, they will punish the manufacturer of the sell, and the toy will be entered in the register of dangerous products.

Keep toys safe

Before you buy a toy, read what to look for when choosing toys for children.
Examine the packaging carefully. It should contain:

  • information on the age of the toy for children
  • CE safety mark (for toys manufactured in the European Union); by placing it on the packaging, the manufacturer declares that the toy has been manufactured in accordance with the safety requirements
  • name and address of the manufacturer or importer
  • user manual in Polish (either printed on the packaging or inserted inside)
  • information about skillsnecessary to use a given toy
  • information about the maintenance method
  • possibly additional warnings, e.g. that the toy may only be used under adult supervision (this applies to toys that are miniature devices or equipment for adults, e.g. remotely controlled vehicles)
  • an additional advantage are approvals or certificates, for example of the Institute of Mother and Child, Children's He alth Center or the National Institute of Hygiene; are not mandatory, but if the toy has them, it is a sign that it is definitely safe for the baby.
Don't do that

Watch out for deals on the internet

On auction portals you can find attractive toys that are not available in Poland. However, do not throw yourself on such super offers. It may turn out that you will buy junk withdrawn from stores. It's best to enter the name of the toy in the search engine and read the parents' opinions about it. Also check on the manufacturer's website if a given product has not been withdrawn from sale.

Examine the toy carefully. Check:

  • what material is it made of and is it easy to wash or clean
  • if there are no sharp edges that could cut the child, or narrow, protruding elements with which the child could pierce his eye
  • there are no holes in which the baby's fingers could get jammed
  • there are no small parts that the child could tear off and swallow, or put in his ear or nose
  • estimate its weight; toys for babies should be as light as possible - the baby can hit himself with a massive rattle
  • if it is not damaged and all its elements are carefully connected
  • with larger toys (e.g. swings, bouncers) check the pressure resistance
  • smell if the material from which the mascot or rattle is made does not give off an unpleasant, irritating smell
  • for electric toys, check that the cables are well hidden
  • if the toy has batteries, find out if the flap under which they are inserted is additionally closed with a latch or a screw, so that the child will not be able to remove the batteries on his own (he may swallow them).
