Changing a dirty diaper is easy. There is no single best way to change your baby. It is worth remembering, however, that in this matter the decisive role is played by … the child's gender. You should change the boy differently and the girl differently
Until a few years ago, you could buy otherdiapersfor girls and others for boys in stores. The first was filled in the center, the second - at the front. Manufacturers took into account the anatomical differences in the structure and arrangement of the genitals of children, and thus - a slightly different direction of urination. Today we do not choose diapers according to gender. But the boy and the girl have to be changed in different ways. There is only one rule in common: when changing a diaper, do not liftbaby's bottomby the calves. This way, you can dislocate your baby's hips or damage his knee joints. If you need to clean the pupa of any fecal remnants, grab the baby's thighs and gently press them against the tummy. Then lay the baby on its side - thanks to this, you can easily clean the soiled area of the back and tailbone.
Changing the girl
- Take off the nappy. Clean the skin with a damp tissue, starting from the vulva towards the anus. By doing it the other way around, you can cause a urinary tract infection.
- Gently open the labia. Use a damp handkerchief or a cotton swab dipped in chamomile infusion to wash away the secretion that has accumulated since the last diaper change and the remains of feces. Thoroughly clean all the recesses and folds.
- Before you put the diaper on, carefully check the bottom and the skin around it. For the first few weeks of her life, your daughter's sexual organs may be disturbing. White or pink discharge may ooze from the vagina, the genitals may be swollen, and a pink tongue usually protrudes from between the labia. However, these are completely normal symptoms. They show that there are still hormones circulating in the baby's body, which have passed through the placenta from the mother's bloodstream. They subside over time - but if you are very concerned, you can show the little pediatrician.
- At the end of thescrollbrush your baby's bottom with anti-diaper dermatitis cream. Be careful not to put the cream on the mucosa - it is extremely delicate and the cosmetic could irritate it.

Changing the boy
- Take off the nappy and clean the skin of fecal remnants. Pay close attention to the nooks and crannies around the scrotum and under the penis, because these are places where dirt often accumulates.
- Do not remove the foreskin, just gently uncover the opening of the urethra and wash with chamomile infusion or clean with a damp tissue. This is an important procedure - if stool debris gets into this area, it can cause a painful infection. In addition, uric acid crystals often precipitate here, which can also cause inflammation.
Take a close look at your child's genitals. The testicles may be swollen and bloodshot during the first few days - this is the effect of mom's hormones circulating in the baby's body. In this case, place the genitalia upwards and fasten the diaper lightly so that it does not constrict and inhibit blood circulation. If you notice that the foreskin is long and narrow, and when you pee your baby grunts - see your doctor as it may be phimosis.
Finally, apply a thin layer of anti-chafing cream to the skin on the bottom and around the scrotum.
You will need this to change your baby:
- Wet wipes. Instead, you can use cotton balls moistened in warm, boiled water or chamomile infusion.
- Anti-chafing cream. It's good if it contains zinc, which has anti-inflammatory properties.
- Diapers. Choose them according to the child's weight. Too small ones will be oppressive, and too big ones can painfully chafe the skin.
- Spare clothes. It may turn out that the diaper is soaked up and the baby will need to change.
