You know that you need to protect your skin from the sun. But the sun's rays also have a negative effect on your hair, which often becomes dull and dull in summer. Your hair is stronger than before when you are pregnant, but it needs extra protection in summer. We advise you on how to take care of them and what to do in case of trouble.

Yourhair , due to the high level of estrogen, ispregnantstronger than before. But in the summer they need extra security. The sun damages their surface and changes their structure. It works best in combination with sea or pool water. Chlorine and s alt irritate the scalp, while water rinses the hair's protective hydro-lipid coating, thanks to which ultraviolet rays have easier access to the hair shaft and trigger a series of chemical reactions (including pigment oxidation). In addition, under the influence of the sun, free radicals are formed in the hair, which destroy the bonds between the chains of keratin fibers, which are the basic building blocks of the hair. The effect is faded, dull, dry hair with split ends. These damages are often irreversible. Fortunately, you can try to prevent them by protecting your hair from the sun, just as you protect your skin.

Hair protection sprays

The easiest thing to do, of course, is not to expose your hair to direct sunlight - look for some shade, cover yourself with a small sun umbrella. In summer, it is worth investing in a hat with a brim, preferably bright, reflecting the sun's rays like a screen. It would be good if it was made of straws - woven (but not openwork) hats let in less UV rays than those made of fabric. The second way is to use hair cosmetics with sunscreen. They should come from special summer series, because then you can be sure that they contain the optimal amount of moisturizing and nourishing ingredients necessary in summer, and also have a sunscreen. It's the same substance as the skin barrier cream, but it's formulated so that it sticks to your hair and doesn't run out too quickly. Such preparations protect the hair in a similar way as cream to the skin - to work, they must remain on the hair, and not be rinsed out during washing. Therefore, the most effective in this case are protective onesmists andoils , which you need to sprinkle on your hair before leaving the house, and then put them in a bag, because you have to repeat the application about every two hours. It's important to do it in the shade - any soaking of your hair in the sun will harm it.

According to an expertDaniel Kaska, hairdresser, Bizarre salon in Warsaw

The choice of regenerative cosmetics depends on the condition and needs of the hair. Dry and brittle hair will need a rebuilding treatment. Smoothing and shining preparations that close the open cuticles will help to regain the shine of dull hair. For the regeneration of sun-bleached hair, the best products are moisturizing and refreshing color, intended for a specific shade of hair. It is good to get a whole series of preparations right away: shampoo, conditioner (you can use the one without rinsing as an auxiliary) and a mask or hair cream. Thanks to them, hair will return to shape after a few treatments.

Shampoo, conditioner and hair mask

In addition to the protective spray with a filter, it is worth buying other cosmetics from the sunny lines in the summer - shampoo, conditioner or mask. They have a higher concentration of substances needed by the hair, e.g. ceramides, and also soothe the irritation of the scalp caused by the sun, s alt or chlorine. While the spray can be compared to a sunscreen with a filter, a conditioner and a mask - to a balm that regenerates the skin after sunbathing. The conditioner will smooth out sun-tired hair and give it shine, while the mask will regenerate and moisturize it. They are used in the same way as regular hair cosmetics. It is important to wash your hair each time you return to the hotel from the seaside or after a swim in the pool. The s alt water stiffens the hair, making it harder to detangle and even break when you try to untangle it. Chlorine leaves an unpleasant smell on the hair. After washing your hair, always put a conditioner on it. It is a good idea to leave it on your hair for a few minutes, because it must have time to work. If you rinse it immediately (even as recommended by the manufacturer), it will smooth your hair and detangle it easier, but it will not regenerate it.

Important

Pregnant, without consulting your doctor, do not take any supplements that improve the condition of your hair. The vitamins and microelements they contain could duplicate those found in supplements recommended by gynecologists for future mothers, and their overdose could be dangerous for the baby.

Regenerating hair treatment

If, despite all these protective measures, your hair has natural, sun-kissed balayage and split ends, you need to treat them with a regenerating treatment.
You will need specialist cosmetics, strongly regenerating and nourishing. Their ingredients penetrate the cuticles and the keratin fibers in the hair shaft, moisturize them and repair damage. You can use them during pregnancy without fear - they will not harm you or your baby, as they do not penetrate into the bloodstream. However, be careful with highly perfumed preparations - firstly, their smell may not suit you now, and secondly, fragrances can cause allergies (a symptom is severe itching of the scalp).

Problem

Help from the salon

If your hair is very damaged and you are not able to deal with this problem on your own, go to the hairdresser for regenerating treatments. A specialist in the salon will select them depending on the problem and condition of your hair.Note:if you are not pregnant yet, be sure to tell your hairdresser about it. Some treatments use devices that strongly warm the scalp - such treatments are not recommended for pregnant women due to weakened blood vessels that could expand due to heat. Before the treatment, also ask about the smell of the preparations and ask for the ones that smell the least intensely.
