The cleanest beaches in Poland each year receive a prestigious award - the Blue Flag. During this year's edition of the program, the International Foundation for Environmental Education, which awards the cleanest and safest beaches in Europe, distinguished several of the best beaches, inland bathing areas and marinas in our country. Check which Polish beaches are the cleanest.
The cleanest beaches in Polandreceived the Blue Flag in May 2022. This year the number of B altic beaches that meet international standards is 22 (last year there were 23). The beach in Świnoujście was awarded the Blue Flag for the 14th time in a row.
The official blue flag ceremony will take place on July 1, 2022. Then they will hang on special masts.
Blue Flag - Award conditions
The Blue Flagis an award given to bathing sites and marinas that meet the highest world standards in the categories of water quality, environmental management, safety and educational and information activities.
This means that the bathing water cannot be contaminated with industrial and municipal sewage, and the swimming pool surroundings should be properly developed and tidy (it must have, among others, litter bins, containers for selective collection of recyclable materials and adapted toilets). for people with disabilities).
In addition, the bathing beach must be guarded, equipped with drinking water sources and first aid measures. It is worth knowing that pets and vehicles are not allowed on the Blue Flag beach area. It is also forbidden to pitch tents.
The title of the cleanest beach is awarded for one season only. In order to be eligible for another award, bathing areas and marinas must undergo numerous inspections every year.
Who decides to award the Blue Flag?
At the national level, the recommendation for the Blue Flag award is given by a jury composed of, among others, representatives of the Ministry of the Environment, the Polish Tourist Organization, the Inspection of Environmental Protection, the State Sanitary Inspection, the Polish Sailing Association, representatives of WOPR and the Association of Sea Cities and Communes.
Final award decisionThe Blue Flag is undertaken by the International Jury based in Copenhagen, which includes from representatives of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), the European Union for Coastal Conservation (EUCC) and the International Maritime Industry Council (ICOMIA).
