How to effectively fight your fears? I am terrified of driving a car, I have not visited my family in the countryside for months, and now I am even starting to have a problem with getting to work by public transport …

First of all, I would advise you not to talk or think about fighting your fears. Fighting always increases the tension and thus the anxiety. It is more about taming, relieving, and most of all, understanding fear. Our fears make some sense, they protect something that is important to us. You just need to discover what it might be. Sometimes the fear of something that is generally judged harmless replaces fears that are not appropriate to admit even to ourselves, or helps us avoid what we think we must agree to. Working with specific fears may require psychotherapeutic help. So I advise you to consider this possibility.

Remember that our expert's answer is informative and will not replace a visit to the doctor.
