Before I even knew I was pregnant, I had shingles. It could have been a week or two after conception. I was taking Heviran. Could the disease and the drug itself harm the child?

Shingles is a viral disease. This virus, if it enters the blood and embryo, has an adverse effect on the development of pregnancy. In early pregnancy, it can cause your pregnancy to stop developing.

Whether the embryo will become infected is unpredictable and there is no way to predict or prevent it. All you need to do is stay under the strict supervision of your doctor and undergo the tests recommended by him.

Heviran belongs to a group of medicines that have not been tested for effects on human pregnancy and therefore should not be used during pregnancy. So it is not known what is the impact of Heviran on the intrauterine development of a child.
