In practice, they are used to measure mental abilities. What are the WISC-R and WAIS-R tests?

Intelligence tests measure cognitive functions and are used to assess professional or school competences, but this is not their primary purpose. Their application is limited to the extent to which they reflect what is known as the general ability to behave intelligently. There are many scales and tests to assess this ability. Intelligence tests

Intelligence is determined by many factors. These factors define the general competence that enables a person to understand the world. Thus, intelligence is a function of the personality as a whole, including also factors that fall outside the concept of cognitive abilities.

Wilhelm Stern first used the term IQ in 1912. He described the method of assessing the result obtained by the child on the Binet Intelligence Scale. He compared the mental age and the age of the tested person, thus determining the level of mental development.

The initial step in determining the IQ is to convert the raw score into a converted score appropriate for the age group to which the subject belongs. An IQ of 120 in a twenty- and sixty-year-old person means that they rank the same in their age group in terms of their intelligence level.

WAIS-R scale

A version of the Adult Intelligence Scale was developed in 1981. The WAIS-R scale consists of six verbal and five wordless scales. They can be used together or separately to obtain Verbal, Wordless, or Full IQ.

This is very useful in practice, because with the help of wordless tests alone, it is possible to test a person who has difficulty understanding or speaking a certain language.
