Pear cider is more and more often seen on store shelves. Is he he althy? Does pear cider have any he alth benefits?

Pear cideris a drink that is gaining more and more popularity in Poland. It is easy to prepare yourself at home, and in addition, it does not contain sugar, so theoretically it may be he althier than sweet wines that do contain this sugar.

We usually deal with apple cider. It is much more popular, if only because it is a traditional drink produced in England. To this day, in Cornwall, a railway line with cider tasting along the trail is available for tourists. However, pear cider may surprise us!

Cider - types

Cider is usually divided into:

  • cider (still),
  • sparkling,
  • carbonated (i.e. cider saturated with carbon dioxide).

Interestingly, in most countries, cider is an alcoholic drink. The only exception is the United States, where cider is an ordinary drink, just slightly processed apple juice. Cider in the form of a drink is referred to there as strong cider.

Pear cider - properties

Pear cider owes its he alth-promoting properties mainly to pears and the fact that it is not produced with the use of sugar. In pears we find iodine (responsible for the positive work of the thyroid gland) and boron, which is a mineral responsible for the work of the brain. Cider helps with digestive problems - it's a great remedy for constipation.

Pears, thanks to the high potassium content, inhibit the development of hypertension. The most antioxidant compounds are found in the peel of pears, so it's not worth peeling them when making cider!

We will notice the he alth benefits of cider only when we consume it occasionally. No alcohol is included in the daily menu, so you should eat them occasionally.

Pear cider - recipe

To prepare 6 liters of cider you need:

  • 10 kg of sweet pears,
  • 4 lemons or 2 sour apples.

Preparation:

  1. Wash the pears thoroughly and cut them into quarters, removing the seeds.
  2. Set aside pears for 12 hours.
  3. Squeeze the juice out of the pears, preferably with a juicer.
  4. Add lemon (or apple) juice.
  5. Pour the obtained juice into a large bottle at about ¾ of the height, and close it thoroughly with a fermentation tube.
  6. Filter the liquid after a week. You have to separate the sediment.
  7. After a month, the cider is ready - pour it into the bottles and close it tightly.

Pear cider for weight loss?

Unfortunately, it's not a good idea. Alcohol increases the appetite, and if consumed too often, it can contribute to weight gain. Even if we drink homemade cider with no added sugar!
