The liver constitutes about 5% of the human body weight and is part of the digestive system. It is made up of four, incompletely separated lobes and is supplied with blood by two large blood vessels - the hepatic artery and the portal vein. Most of us associate this gland with detoxification of the body (which is helped by the liver diet), but the liver also plays a role in immunity, thermoregulation, the production and conversion of proteins, and the production of glucose. That is why any liver ailments are very worrying.
