FFP3 mask only for medics?
FFP3 masks should only be used by doctors, nurses and other medical personnelwho have direct contact with people who are sick or suspected of being infected with the virus. In this case, a high level of personal protection is necessary.

Filter masks consist of many layers with different functions.
They usually have:
- top layer as an antistatic barrier
- and a face layer made of hypoallergenic materials that are gentle on the skin.
The most important layer of FFP2 and FFP3 masks isfiltering layerthat ensures particle retention at a level appropriate for a given class.
Some masks also have agraphene layer , which is additionally a bacteriostatic barrier.
FFP3 mask - efficiency and effectiveness
For the sake of systematization, the filter efficiency understood by the removal of x% of all particles with a diameter of 0.3 micrometers or more is as follows:
- FFP1 - at least 80%,
- FFP2 - at least 94%,
- N95 - at least 95%,
- FFP3 and N99 - at least 99%.
FFP3 mask - single or reusable?
FFP3 masks can be used multiple times . However, they should be subjected to appropriate, adapted decontamination, in order not tolower the filtering efficiency.
FFP3 masks provide much better protection than reusable surgical masks or cotton masks.
Thanks to the regulating elements, they tightly adhere to the face and significantly reduce the possibility of SARS-CoV-2 virus transmission. Therefore, they are currently the most recommended PPE.
FFP3 masks have special markings indicating whether we are dealing with a disposable or reusable mask:
- Disposable masks are marked with the symbolNR - NonReusable
- In contrast, reusable masks are marked asR - Reusable
For disposable masks (NR) the recommended usage time is 8 hours.
For reusable (R) masks it is usually 48 hours.
