Who are reflections on the hair for?
Reflections look great on both short and long hair. However, in the first place, people with mousy hair should decide on this way of beautifying the hairstyle - without an expressive shade. In this case, reflections will enliven the color, add shine to it, and in some cases, can radically change the appearance of the hairstyle.
Thanks to the reflections on the hair, it is possible to achieve the effect of luminous brightening, such as the one that naturally forms on the head due to the sun, for example during a holiday by the sea.
There is no person who would not add beauty to his hair without reflections.
Reflections on the hair are also suitable for people who want to clearly change something in their appearance without changing their hairstyle, optically subtract years or divert attention from skin imperfections. In this case, it is worth choosing especially reflections in warm shades, because they give the best results. Reflections have another advantage - when applied to uniformly colored hair, they prevent any regrowths for some time - and when they become visible, they often look like the intended effect. That is why they will also work for people who dye their hair regularly.
How to choose the color of reflections on my hair?
Reflected hair looks very natural -they are delicately illuminated, as if touched by the rays of the sun - but this effect is not easy to achieve. A lot depends on the right color selection, which should be matched to both the current shade of hair and the complexion.
For blondes, reflections in a shade of sunny or reddish blond, as well as old gold, are usually best. For darker hair, reflections in a shade or two lighter than the current shade are the most appropriate.
Sometimes it is necessary to use two or even three shades to get the effect of reflections as natural as possible, which will add beauty to a given type of hairstyle, shade of hair or complexion.
Reflections on the hair: the flamboyage technique
One of the types of hairstyling in a hairdressing salon that allows you to obtain the effect of three-dimensional dyeing and very natural reflections is the flamboyage technique. Thanks to it, the hair looks as if it was gently brightened by the sun in certain places. This technique emphasizes the natural shade of the hair by applying reflections along the entire length.
During coloring, the hairdresser uses special self-adhesive foil strips - they are a kind of pad, thanks to which the hairdresser precisely selects the strands of the appropriate width and separates them. The paint is applied to the hair stuck to the strip, and then it is separated from the remaining hair with foil or strips of previously prepared paper. Once the color has set, the strips are moistened with water and pulled off the hair. To add depth and volume to the hairstyle, hairdressers often apply not one, but several similar shades of paint to the strands.
How to make reflections on your hair at home?
1. Paint with brightener
To make reflections yourself, you need a special hair dye that gives the effect of reflections or a special preparation for making highlights - usually it is a dye containing a bleach, which includes a special brush or comb for application.
In the latter case, you will also need aluminum foil and a comb with a spike to separate the strands. We select individual strands, put the hair preparation on them, wrap them with foil and leave them for the time recommended by the manufacturer.
Trying to reflect on your hair by yourself requires a lot of skill.
2. Spray brightener
Another chemical way to create reflections in your hair are spray lighteners (so-called spray reflections) available in drugstores and intended for hair that has not been dyed before. The effect is permanent, but not immediate: bylighten hair, usually requires several applications. Products of this type usually contain hydrogen peroxide, as well as plant extracts that condition the hair.
3. Cosmetics for reflecting hair
There are also other, non-invasive methods to achieve the desired effect on the hair without the intervention of a hairdresser or home coloring agents.
The simplest is a shampoo and conditioner adapted to the hair color we currently have - such cosmetics contain substances that make the hair glow and start to shine (in shampoos for blond hair it is usually chamomile extract, and for dark ones - henna).
The remaining ingredients of cosmetics, such as vitamins, oils, flavonoids, moisturize and nourish the hair, giving it elasticity. The effect appears after a few weeks of regular use. Creams that give the hair sun reflections work a bit faster - after a few uses, brighter highlights appear on the hair.
If you don't want to wait that long, you can also use home remedies for reflexes - there are several of them.
4. Chamomile rinse
Pour a few bags of chamomile with two liters of boiling water, set aside until it cools down. In the meantime, wash your hair and apply conditioner to it. After you rinse it, pour chamomile tea over your hair - it should be warm but not hot. Beautiful, natural reflections will appear after several such treatments.
5. Lemon juice and water hair spray
You will need an atomizer bottle, 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice and 3/4 cup of water - mix both liquids, pour into a bottle, and then spritz your hair where you want reflections (not at the roots) ). After two hours, wash your hair - because lemon can dry your hair, apply conditioner after washing.
