Swedish Herbs is a traditional blend of 11 herbs that work for almost everything. From headache, through indigestion, menstrual cramps, ending with skin rashes. Swedish herbs will be useful in every home medicine cabinet. How to make a medicinal tincture of Swedish herbs?

Swedish Herbsis a natural, traditional medicine that has been used for generations. It is said that they were composed by a Swedish physician Klaus Samst who lived in the 17th century ( although some sources say that Paracelsus did it even earlier). It is said that thanks to his blend of herbs, both he and his family lived to a ripe old age - Samst died in a horse riding accident when he was 104 years old. After that, its valuable recipe was forgotten for a long time. She gained her second life only in the 1970s, thanks to Maria Treben, an Austrian herbalist and author of such bestsellers as "God's Pharmacy" and "Herbs from God's Garden". Today, despite the development of medicine, Swedish herbs still have many supporters and are a must-have in their home first aid kit. Are they really as effective in treating almost all diseases as Maria Treben praised? Up to a point, yes. After all, it is a mixture of herbs that have certain properties. Note that many conventional medications are based on plant ingredients, including herbal ingredients. However, for all her knowledge of herbal medicine, even Maria Treben always stressed the importance of contacting a doctor. She wanted every patient to always contact a specialist before using herbs. In case of serious diseases, herbs can only support the therapy.

Swedish herbs - tincture

Preparing the tincture yourself is not complicated. There is no need to buy herbs individually and measure portions, because a properly composed mixture of Swedish herbs is available for sale. It is enough to buy one packet and vodka. You can also buy a ready-made tincture.

The mixture should be poured into a 2-liter bottle and 1.5 liters of rye vodka or other good fruit vodka of 38-40% strength. Leave the bottle in a warm or sunny place for 2 weeks, but shake it well every day. After 14 days, strain the tincture and pour it into smaller, more convenient bottles. We can use it for many years.

Swedish herbs - use and dosage

Swedish herbs help with a number of he alth problems, and you can use them both internally and externally, usually diluted - 1 tablespoon of tincture in 1/2 cup of water.

  • Swedish herbs - internal use

Drinking diluted tincture heals pharyngitis (drink slowly), respiratory infections, reduces toothache (you can only rinse) and menstrual pain, improves circulation, slightly raises blood pressure, fights intestinal parasites, regulates the menstrual cycle and even facilitates childbirth.

It is recommended not to combine Swedish herbs with milk. So, if we take a tincture of Swedish herbs, e.g. before breakfast, there should be no dairy products in this meal.

On the other hand, a pure tincture (two tablespoons) will wake up a fainted person, and also cure a hangover (probably using a "wedge").

In herbal medicine, a few drops of Swedish herbs dissolved in water are used to help children overcome smallpox. You can also smear drying scabs with a clean tincture. The tincture is very effective in the case of digestive problems, as it improves the functioning of the digestive system and improves the appetite. Modern phytotherapy recommends them with symptoms such as:

  • stomach pain, flatulence, constipation, heaviness after a meal - drink the diluted tincture slowly
  • gall bladder pain - apart from drinking the tincture, compresses also help. A cloth soaked in Swedish herbs should be put on the place of pain and left for some time
  • Swedish herbs - external use

In this case, Swedish herbs are madewraps. Soaked gauze or a cotton swab should be applied to the body, remembering to lubricate the skin in a given place first - e.g. with cosmetic petroleum jelly or calorie ointment. Swedish herbs used in this way help heal skin rashes, acne, viral warts and even canker sores. They smooth dry and chapped skin on the hands and feet, heal cuts, burns and frostbite. They reduce and smooth out scars, they also help with corns and hemorrhoids, and even release food stagnation. In addition, they work on:

  • headaches and dizziness, improve concentration and memory - sniff a soaked cotton ball or put a cloth soaked in tincture to your head
  • clouding and redness of the eyes, glaucoma prevention - gently moisten the corners of the eyes with the diluted tincture, e.g. with a spatula
  • earache, noise - put a soaked cotton ball in the ear
  • rheumatic pains - we also supplement the compresses by taking the tincture orally
  • trouble falling asleep - inhalation: in this case, sprinkle the cloth with diluted herbs and put it on your heart

Maria Treben, in "Pharmacy …" also writes: "Whoever takes drops every morning and evening does not need any other medications, because Swedish herbs strengthen the whole body," refresh nerves and blood ", remove tremors in arms and legs. In short, they prevent all diseases. The body is supple and the face is youthful and beautiful. " Following Dr. Samst, he also gives many of the properties of Swedish herbs that may seem at least amusing today, such as the fact that they cure depression, epilepsy, plague, tuberculosis and cancer. Although some of this information can be put into fairy tales, many are for sure true - after all, it is a composition of valuable herbs.
