Hair aging- when does it start? Most of us at some point - sometimes as early as our 30th birthday and sometimes as late as our 50th birthday - notice that the hair has become weaker and more and more are left on the comb.

Graying is not the only sign of aging hair. Over the years, the hair follicles shrink and the bulbs are nourished less and less - the more hormones (estrogens) are depleted, the more visible these changes are.

Hair becomes thinner, less "fleshy" and elastic, the pace of its growth also slows down - from about 1 cm to only 2-4 mm in a month. Hair loses not only in thickness, but also in density - old ones fall out, and weak bulbs do not grow into new ones.

The scalp also changes - it becomes dry, less supplied with blood, and is easily irritated. Of course, not only time and the hormonal changes with age are responsible for these unfavorable changes.

Part of the fault lies with free radicals generated as a result of stress, metabolism disorders or UV radiation - they destroy proteins, especially keratin, which is the main building block of hair.

But also a diet low in amino acids, minerals and vitamins, as well as inadequate care - too aggressive cosmetics and treatments - contribute to excessive drying of the scalp, damage to the hair structure and deprive it of natural protection.

Despite so many threats, you can very effectively defend your hair.

Aging hair: daily care

This is the basis for caring for he althy hair and scalp. So start with a review of the cosmetics you use for your daily care - choose those that contain substances that condition aging hair.

One of the most valuable iskeratin, and more precisely its hydrolyzate - in this form, keratin perfectly builds into the damaged areas of the hair sheath, filling the gaps. It also maintains a good level of hydration inside the hair shaft and on the scalp. As a result, the hair is visibly strengthened and resilient, increases its volume, restores shine and he althy appearance.

In addition to keratin, a good cosmetic should contain antioxidants - e.g. plant extracts, vitamin C and vitamin E - as well as anti-aging complexes that protect against damage caused by ultraviolet radiation. It is also important that the cosmetic contains ingredients that moisturize the scalp and prevent its possible irritation, e.g. panthenol, urea, hyaluronic acid.

The frequency of washing your hair does not significantly affect its condition. However, it is important to gently massage the scalp while washing, stimulating microcirculation. Thanks to this, what is valuable in the shampoo has a chance to reach the hair follicles.

After washing, apply conditioner to your hair, especially to the ends, which are usually the most damaged. Leave it on the hair for 2-3 minutes (this is usually recommended by the manufacturer), which ensures that the nutrients have time to penetrate the hair shaft.

Once, and in the case of damaged and weakened hair twice a week, put on a mask. Choose products that contain anti-aging ingredients, such as argan oil.

Hair aging: strengthening treatment

Among the cosmetics improving the condition and appearance of aging hair, there are more and more of those that until recently were only used in hairdressing salons, and today are available for home use.

These are tonics, cheeses and lotions, as well as whole series of cosmetics - shampoo, conditioner, mask - containing ingredients that very intensively affect the scalp and provide substances that strongly stimulate the hair follicles.

They often contain, for example, coenzyme Q10, which stimulates the hair bulbs to produce keratin. Many companies' products contain patented complexes of vitamins, minerals and other compounds that "awaken" the hair follicles, inhibit hair loss and increase their thickness and additionally thickness.

These are true miracle workers among cosmetics designed for hair regeneration, but the condition for their effectiveness is regularity and a sufficiently long period of use (usually at least 3 months).

It is also usually important to perform a massage after the application of the cosmetic, which will facilitate the penetration of the compounds contained in the preparation into the hair follicles.

Hair aging: graying

Appearancethe first gray hair is most often equated with aging, although this is not entirely true. The disappearance of melanocytes (cells that produce the hair dye) is greatly influenced not only by time, but also by stress and lifestyle, as well as UV radiation. This process cannot be stopped, but it can be significantly delayed, e.g. using cosmetics that protect hair from the sun every day.

What to do when gray hair appears? If you can't accept it, you can dye your hair or use a hair dye. There are permanent paints that hide 100 percent. gray hair, or semi-permanent, i.e. "tone on tone", perfect for people with only single gray strands.

On the other hand, hair removers, unlike hair dyes, work gradually, rebuilding the pigments in the hair. They contain the so-called melanin precursors that penetrate the hair and under the influence of oxygen from the air transform into a pigment identical to the natural one.

Gray hair gradually becomes less visible. Hair removers are designed for hair with a natural shade, from medium brown to medium blonde. In addition, if you decide to fight gray hair in this way, you must reckon with the fact that you will use these cosmetics constantly.
