Can a doctor own a pharmacy? What conditions does it have to meet?

A doctor may own a pharmacy. Taking up business activity in the form of running a generally accessible pharmacy, pharmacy outlet or pharmaceutical wholesaler requires a permit. In the case of a pharmacy, an application for a permit should be submitted to the Provincial Pharmaceutical Supervision Inspector competent for the place of business. After receiving the permit, the owner of the pharmacy must submit the relevant documentation to the National He alth Protection Fund, which is needed to grant reimbursement for some of the drugs sold. In Poland, a pharmacy can be established by any entrepreneur who runs a business in any legal form, however, legal provisions set out certain conditions that must be met to open a pharmacy. The pharmacy must employ a pharmacist as a manager. According to Polish law, a pharmacist is a person who meets one of the following conditions:

- completed five-year studies in pharmacy in Poland, including at least six-month internship in a pharmacy and obtained a master's degree;

- she completed a four or five-year pharmacy study in Poland and obtained a master's degree;

- has a diploma issued by a state other than a European Union member state confirming completion of at least five-year studies in pharmacy, including at least six-month internship in a pharmacy, recognized in the Republic of Poland as equivalent to the diploma and professional title of master's degree obtained in Poland

- he is a citizen of a European Union Member State and has a document confirming the relevant qualifications to practice in Poland as a pharmacist.
