The Institute of Human Genetics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań was the first to develop a quantitative test for the evaluation of the cellular immune response against SARS-CoV-2. He also introduced a test determining the amount of IgG antibodies in the blood to diagnostics.

A quantitative test that checks the level of IgG antibodies in the blood gives you information about exactly how many antibodies you have. As explained by the Institute of Human Genetics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, there are generally available qualitative tests on the market, which only say whether a given person has antibodies. According to her, "this knowledge is insufficient to assess our chances of defeating the virus" SARS-CoV-2. - Thanks to this test, we can therefore determine the status of antibodies in the body, whether they are present and how many of them - added the IGC PAN.

Experts pointed out that "in some people, IgG antibodies disappear quickly or may not appear or may not be detected in the elderly and chronically ill, but this does not necessarily mean that they have not acquired sufficient resistance to COVID- 19 ".

- If IgG antibodies are not detected or we do not have them, the study of cellular assessment of the immune response against SARS-COV-2 comes to the rescue - explained the Institute. Thanks to this test, it is possible to assess the level of long-term cellular response after SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination, even in the absence of IgG antibodies.

Advanced research with the highest level of error-free

The quantitative test for the assessment of cellular immune response against SARS-CoV-2, developed and implemented by the IGC PAN for diagnostics, is an advanced test with the highest level of error-free.

In the opinion of the director of the Institute, prof. Michał Witt, "the study will provide insight into long-term effects on the immune status against coronavirus." - This result will be important both for vaccinated people, convalescents and those who decided not to take any preventive measures. Cellular immunity is the longest-lasting and most stable mechanism of the body's immune defense. High cellular immunity gives a chance to effectively fight the pathogen for a long time - he explained.

In the COVID-19 Diagnostics Laboratory, which operates as part of the Innovative Medical Center IGC PAN in Poznań, you can perform botha quantitative test to assess the cellular immune response to SARS-CoV-2, as well as a test to determine the amount of IgG antibodies in the blood.
