My dad is 54 years old. He has high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis, and in December, after the aortic aneurysm ruptured, he had surgery and now has a large part of the aorta made of plastic and a new valve. What should he eat to thin the blood? What is the prognosis for the future? What should he eat to improve his he alth?
Detailed recommendations for a patient with an implanted aortic prosthesis and an artificial valve can only be issued by the cardiac surgeon who operated on the patient, and he has certainly received such recommendations - please carefully read the information card issued upon discharge from the hospital. As for the general rules, it is important to treat the so-called risk factors, i.e. hypertension, high cholesterol and not smoking. The diet should be easily digestible, excluding fatty foods, egg yolks, mayonnaise - in other words, those products that raise cholesterol. You should also take care of the regularity of treatment, have the right amount of drugs so that there is enough of them for the period between visits to the doctor.
Remember that our expert's answer is informative and will not replace a visit to the doctor.
