I'm 6 weeks pregnant. During the first laboratory tests, including the confirmation of pregnancy, it turned out that I have an elevated TSH hormone to 8.94. (the rest of the results are normal). This is very much above the norm. I would like to add that I have never had problems with thyroid hormone before. After the endocrine consultation, the doctor stated that at this point he could not clearly determine what was the cause of the elevated hormone: whether it was thyroid disease (inflammation) or hypothyroidism. He recommended Euthyrox 75 and a detailed study in 4-5 weeks to verify that hormone levels would drop after taking the drug. He also said there was a high risk of miscarriage. I would like to consult you in this area? Is there a great risk to my baby at this point, since it is the 6th week and I am already taking medication? What can I do to lower these hormone levels as soon as possible? Maybe a diet? Take iodine-containing preparations? Is it advisable or not? I also read that selenium can be helpful? However, I do not want to use anything without consulting a doctor, because I am afraid that I may harm than help.

There is an increased risk of miscarriage if you have untreated hypothyroidism and you are treated. Hashimoto's disease can be diagnosed in pregnancy on the basis of an antibody test and an ultrasound scan of the thyroid gland. The Euthyrox you are taking is a medicine that compensates for a deficiency in thyroid hormones. Every pregnant woman, unless she has an immune hyperfunction, is advised to take iodine supplementation. Selenium is used in immunological diseases, but its effectiveness is debatable.
