Hello, I have a question about dyslexia. How should you develop rules for working with a dyslexic child in Polish?
When it comes to working with dyslexic learning, remember to follow the Opinion of the Psychological and Pedagogical Counseling Center. In the opinion, you can find the main recommendations for working with a dyslexic student, please carefully analyze the opinion from the PPP, there are also comments and conclusions for further work.
A dyslexic student should not:
- read aloud in the presence of the whole class, as this increases the level of his or her stress (unless the text has been practiced several times and the student can read it),
- read too long texts.
The teacher should not:use competition and praise only gifted pupils (even more comparing gifted pupils with dyslexic pupils), discuss mistakes in the presence of the whole class.
When working with a dyslexic student you should:
- use alternately aloud and silent read with checking later whether the text was understood by the student,
- recommend writing with a pencil, repeat and record the material from the lesson whenever possible,
- support and praise even the smallest successes,
- when assessing written works from Polish, do not take into account dyslexic errors that may lower the grade.
The overall grade in Polish should be influenced by all the student's achievements. One should also remember about the individualisation of the student's work, formulating sentences tailored to his abilities, providing conditions for the correct performance of the task, slow and systematic transition from easier to more difficult tasks, adapting the duration of the exercise to the student's abilities, mobilizing the student to perform the task by using various forms of exercises , completely erasing wrong words and writing them correctly at the top of the notebook, marking the number of wrongly written words in the margin, sticking stripes of correctly spelled words in place of the wrong word.
