My mother has been suffering from schizophrenia for many years. Every now and then, usually with the arrival of spring, he has acute relapses ending in hospitalization. Apart from relapses like this, I don't think she ever recovered 100%. There were also people suffering from depression in the mother's family. However, in my boyfriend's family, his father suffers from schizophrenia. When we think about our children together, there are concerns about an increased likelihood of developing mental illnesses. Is the Doctor able to determine how much our children may be burdened with?

The risk of falling ill depends on the degree of kinship and amounts to: children of a sick parent: 6%, grandchildren of sick grandparents about 5%. Since the burden of schizophrenia would be from grandma on the one hand and grandfather on the other, the risk would be slightly greater. But please remember that these are just statistics! Regards!
