My son is 19 months old and he constantly wakes up 5-6 times at night, and so every night during the day he takes 2 hours naps. He is a very active child of mischief, he is making trouble - maybe he gets too tired? How can I keep my baby sleeping all night? Is this normal for children of this age?
Agato! Children in their teens of months should sleep at night. But we all have a different biological rhythm and sleep depth. If your son wakes up several times during the night, you have to observe whether it is full awakening or just a momentary break from the deepest sleep. You don't write whether he wakes up screaming or sits down and starts chatting, or whether he wakes up and plays in silence. This is a huge difference. If your son calls you after waking up, think about what calms him down. There are tons of reasons why babies wake up. Maybe the apartment is too warm or too stuffy for the child, maybe it is hungry or thirsty because the body has not got used to such long breaks in meals; maybe he has flatulence and you need to aid digestion with dill tea; maybe the child has the so-called "Light sleep" and when he wakes up, he is afraid of the dark; or maybe vice versa: you leave the lamp at night and it wakes it up completely, etc., etc. Try to observe and change something. Sometimes changing the quilt for a blanket or moving the bed helps. In addition, do your best to calm the living child before going to bed. Stick to a regular ritual before going to bed. Training to fall asleep by itself is essential. Silence and a supply of fresh air are an elementary condition for a restful sleep. You can also consult your pediatrician. It happens that the delicate nervous system of a child accumulates the tensions and emotions of the day and then unloads them too much at night. Then it is recommended to give a calming lemon balm before evening. Good luck. B.
