Robinia acacia is a tree that grows in Polish parks. It delights with beautiful and fragrant flowers, it is relatively large - up to 25 meters. It is sometimes called acacia or white locust. It is very often called acacia, although it is incorrect.

Robinia acaciagrows all over the world, its birthplace is probably North America. Robinia flowers are white, growing in clusters, appearing in late May and early June. Interestingly, black locust is one of the most honey-bearing plants growing in Poland. Robinia honey is mistakenly called acacia, probably because the robinia itself is mistakenly called acacia.

Robin honey is transparent and does not crystallize. However, locust locust are used not only to obtain honey. Its flowers can also be eaten.

Robinia acacia - what's in it?

More precisely: what do the flowers of black robinia contain? We will focus only on the edible part of the plant, i.e. the acacia robinia flowers. We find in them:

  • flavonoid glycosides and their anglicones (including robinin and kaempferol),
  • biosides (including biocquercetin),
  • essential oil (e.g. farnesol, linalool),
  • sugar compounds,
  • organic acids.

It is thanks to the content of these ingredients that the acacia robinia flowers have he alth properties and can be used in herbal medicine. Usually, mainly the diuretic properties of the plant are emphasized, but not only they are the domain of acacia robinia flowers.

Robinia acacia - he alth properties

Robinia acacia is a poisonous tree! Its only edible, and even he alth-promoting properties are its flowers. Robinia flowers have a strengthening effect on the body: they support the work of the nervous system (they have calming properties), have a strengthening and relaxing effect on the body.

Black robinia flowersalleviate digestive tract problems:

  • relieve inflammation of the bile ducts,
  • help with disturbances in the flow of bile to the duodenum
  • they are even used in cases of internal drug poisoning.

Also black locust:

  • worksdiuretic,
  • helps with inflammation of the kidneys,
  • help with swelling (because of their diuretic properties).

Acacia Robinia is consumed as an infusion if we want to have a positive effect on he alth. Usually, such an infusion is drunk up to 3 times a day, after a meal. Infusions will work as a remedy for edema caused by circulatory failure, they will work well in inflammation of the kidneys, they will help with oliguria, as well as in rheumatic diseases. Robinia flowers are especially recommended for women after childbirth, as well as for children and adolescents during their adolescence. They will also be useful for very stressed people.

We'll say it again: Robinia leaves, bark and seeds are poisonous. Their consumption may cause:

  • vomiting,
  • fever,
  • visual disturbance,
  • stomach ache.

Robinia acacia - how to eat?

In order to eat the black locust flowers, you must first obtain them. Remember that only flowering inflorescences are collected, and then they need to be dried in a dark and airy place. If we want to eat the inflorescences - they are not poisonous and can be eaten. They will retain their he alth properties also after subjecting them to heat treatment, i.e. frying (you can simply add them to a pancake or cake dough.

You can prepare the acacia robinia flowers:

  • syrup (grate flowers with sugar),
  • infusion (pour boiling water over the flowers and let them brew for 15 minutes, covered),
  • tea (proceed in the same way as with the infusion - strain before drinking),
  • homemade preserves - wine, preserves.
