On Tuesday, the number of COVID-19 victims in Poland officially exceeded 100,000. people. Officially - because experts say that this number is much higher in our country. Prof. Robert Flisiak, president of the Polish Society of Epidemiologists and Doctors of Infectious Diseases, member of the Medical Council at the premiere.
On Tuesday morning, He alth Minister Adam Niedzielski informed that 100,000 died in Poland due to coronavirus infection. people. On the same day in the evening, these data were commented on by prof. Robert Flisiak.
"First of all, let's be honest: this is not a real number. 100,000 are identified people who were tested and found infected. Besides, there are also extra-dimensional deaths, in which we are also breaking records. It is estimated that that it is twice as much "- emphasized the professor. "You could say that 200,000 is the right number that we should celebrate today with silence," he added.
Speaking of the causes, he pointed out that we have a "devastated he alth care system and infrastructure", as well as the fewest doctors and nurses in Europe per million inhabitants. "These are hard data reported for many years by the European Commission, by the OECD" - he explained.
"It's not like we are somewhere at the end of the peloton. We are far behind the peloton. If there are no personnel, even if there were equipment, if there were infrastructure, not much could be done. And this equipment and infrastructure there is no "- said prof. Flisiak.
As he noted, the continuous increase in the number of people who die from COVID-19 is also influenced by the fact that Poles do not want to get vaccinated.
Prof. Flisiak was also asked on TVN24 about reports that some members of the Medical Council at the prime minister are considering resignation - the reason would be a statement from the Małopolska education superintendent Barbara Nowak, who called vaccination against COVID-19 "an experiment" or the fact that expert councils are now mostly ignored.
The professor noted that at the beginning of the cooperation, the members of the Council were full of enthusiasm because they were listened to, but for some time they have not been. In his opinion, frustration and discouragement are growing. "Especially if we hear from members of the government who should support any actionpro-vaccine voices attacking us, "he said.
The expert emphasized that the goal of the government should be to combat the epidemic and the declaration shows that it is so. "But we all know that at some point an impenetrable wall appears in the form of the mythical parliamentary majority" - he noted. "The formula (of the Medical Council - PAP) has probably run out because we are not able to push through any other actions" - said prof. Flisiak.
"What we will do next is still in limbo. We do not make decisions, we do not want to make rash decisions. It is also not that because of the behavior of one person, we make a decision. It could be a bitterness , but it is not a direct reason "- he concluded.
