One of the makers of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca said it was impracticable to try to vaccinate the entire world's population every six months. He emphasized that it is necessary to focus on people particularly at risk of falling ill, instead of administering subsequent doses to everyone after the age of 12.
"We can't vaccinate the planet against Covid-19 every six months," Andrew Pollard told The Telegraph.
More data is needed to determine "if, when, and how often those at risk will need an additional dose," added Pollard.
The scientist admitted that it is not yet known whether a fourth dose of the vaccine is really needed, and that a decision should be made on such a vaccination campaign only after further tests.Meanwhile, Israel has already started vaccinating with the fourth dose that all he alth workers and people over 60 can receive in this country from Monday. The Germans have also already declared that "they will need a fourth dose of the vaccine".
Pollard said in an interview that when it comes to the pandemic, "the worst is behind us" and to get straight, the world "just needs to get through the winter".
