I'm at risk of breast cancer. My mother had this cancer and my grandmother had ovarian cancer. And on his father's side, his dad and all lung cancer brothers. I am 31 years old and have a 3 year old daughter. I have been taking contraceptive pills for almost 2 years, my gynecologist, knowing my history, said that I cannot take pills, but he offers me an insert which, according to him, is safe because it works locally, and not like pills - on the whole body. When I was on a breast ultrasound, I found out that I shouldn't use hormonal inserts. I do not know how to protect myself against pregnancy, because everyone says differently.
Hormonal contraception reduces the risk of ovarian cancer. When it comes to breast cancer, that's not known. I can only write to you that none of the cancers in your family mentioned by you is a contraindication to the use of hormonal contraception.
