A helicopter can help cure dentophobia, i.e. fear of the dentist. As reported by the press office of the dental office in Gliwice, Dentysta.eu, a project for relaxing patients before dental procedures has just been implemented, which is based on the neurofeedback method, i.e. mind training. How can a helicopter alleviate or even eliminate the stress of visiting the dentist?
Helikopterwill help you get rid offear of the dentist . Before the procedure, it is enough to give the patient Puzzlebox Orbit, a miniature helicopter (the so-called braincopter), which will be controlled by his brain waves in order to reduce stress.
You can get rid of the fear of the dentist in Gliwice
The project of relaxation and concentration of patients before treatments, which is based on the neurofeedback method, i.e. mind training, has already been implemented in one of the dental offices in Gliwice. Why was the Braincopter brought to Poland right now? Due to the increasing number of patients suffering from the fear of the dentist - dentophobia. Today, as many as 14% of women and 13% of men declare that their fear of the dentist is paralyzing. In turn, nearly 60% of patients are afraid of the dentist because of the pain they have experienced in the past. As explained by dentist Marcin Krufczyk, the owner of Dentysta.eu, which brought the braincopter to Poland, Poles are still afraid of the dentist. They are paralyzed by the specter of pain, the prospect of surgery, touch and a claustrophobic room. This is a real threat, which means that in Poland for many years we have not been able to deal with the problem of caries, toothlessness in people over 50 or caries among the youngest. The emergence of new solutions is therefore a chance for an effective fight against dentophobia - argues the doctor.
The creators of the device are Steve Castellotti from San Francisco and the engineer Hao Zhang. The implementation of their idea was financed entirely by internet users who paid over 70,000 PLN via the Kickstarter platform. dollars, even though the project only needed 10 thousand. dollars.
What does a braincopter relaxation session look like?
The patient receives wireless headphones with electrodes attached to them, needed for EEG measurement. Then it is also connected toa monitor that records the image of the brain waves. The patient, by focusing and focusing on the games specially prepared for him, which are displayed on the tablet, can be put into a state of relaxation, which will be signaled by the EEG graph. Only then does he get a helicopter. The headphones on the head read the potential difference between the electrodes, sending a signal to the device, which then processes the information and tells the helicopter about a possible take-off in the event of exceeding the positive values of relaxation or concentration. As Dr. Krufczyk explains - This is most often the moment when the patient completely forgets about the stress that accompanied him before the visit. The whole session lasts 60 minutes.
Relaxing helicopter not only at the dentist's
Neurofeedback devices are used not only by dentists, but also by neurologists, especially in the treatment of epilepsy, brain injuries and chronic headaches. It is also used by psychological clinics treating children with ADHD, as well as drug addiction centers. The method also allows you to minimize stress before public appearances, exams, meetings, and sports competitions. As Dr. Krufczyk argues, solutions of this type were used, among others, by Ski jumper Adam Małysz or NBA basketball player Kobe Bryant and AC Milan players.
Relaxing glasses will be available soon
Puzzlebox Orbit is not the only device that uses the neurofeedback method to be delivered to the dental office in Gliwice. Soon, Dentysta.eu patients will be able to use special virtual glasses with music headphones, which, like the braincopter, are to relax a stressed patient.
