I am 55 years old, my hair has been falling out for several months, it is already very thin, especially on the top of my head and above my ears. I'm afraid I'll be bald in a few weeks. It all started with annoying dandruff, I fought it with good shampoos and lotions, but the hair still falls out, visibly thinning. I am asking for advice.
In the case of excessive hair loss, first of all, appropriate diagnostics should be carried out in order to detect the cause of this phenomenon. The following tests may be helpful here: trichogram, morphology, iron level, thyroid hormones, sex hormones. It should be remembered that excessive hair loss may occur after surgeries, infections, pregnancy, with the use of certain medications and stress. In these cases, it is temporary, usually after 3 - 4 months it subsides (you can add fluid with minoxidil to accelerate the improvement). Treatment always consists in eliminating the cause (treatment of the underlying disease) and symptomatic strengthening of the hair (improving the blood supply to the hair follicles) - with the preparation of minoxidil.
