I noticed that my apprentice started to stutter. I am a grade 3 homeroom teacher in primary school. Ania cannot say the syllables "bye" and "po", something is blocking her. I have the impression that she is short of air, then it hugs her neck and lowers her head. Mom doesn't know the reason, she's just as concerned, says it has been going on for three months now and it started suddenly. Ania is an ambitious and sensitive child. Mom visited a speech therapist with her, but she could not help her. I am asking for tips on how to work with Ania in the classroom and is it a temporary state or a problem with which you should contact a speech therapist - a stuttering specialist?

You will certainly need Ania's understanding of her difficulties, but without falling into compassion. Ania should, just like before, be called to answer, when she has a problem with saying, you have to wait patiently until she finishes, do not interrupt and finish the sentence for her. Such a picture of communication is not a temporary state, but a classic stuttering subject to therapy. Intensive speech therapy (perhaps at a neurologpedic specialist) is necessary, which will improve Ania's fluency. Leaving this state on itself can have far-reaching emotional and psychological consequences.
