Research conducted at the Lodz University of Technology proves that supplementation with a molecule called 1-MNA has a positive effect on recovery from before COVID-19 infection. This is also the opinion of cardiologist Dr. Michał Chudzik, creator of the STOP-COVID program, which has been studying people with long Covid for over a year.

The molecule is called 1-MNA, it was tested at the Lodz University of Technology and is produced in Lodz laboratories. At a dose of 58 mg a day, it has a positive effect on the efficiency and tolerance of physical effort.

As explained by Marzena Wieczorkowska, PhD in chemical sciences, research and development director from the Lodz company Pharmena, which worked on 1-MNA at the Lodz University of Technology from the first laboratory research to its patenting: "As a result of practicing sports in our body a number of mechanisms are activated, including lipoprotein lipase. MNA influences fat metabolism, increases lipase activity to a degree similar to that during moderate physical activity ".

The 1-MNA molecule belongs to the so-called endogenous molecules, i.e. it occurs in the human body, it is also found in nature - incl. in wakame leaves and green tea.

As a quaternary pyridinium s alt, it is the major metabolite of vitamin B3 (vitamin PP). It has anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant properties, improves microcirculation and activates enzymes that have a beneficial effect, among others. on life processes.

This molecule stabilizes, among others, sirtuins, i.e. proteins responsible for aging processes, delaying them. This action has been documented in publications, incl. in the magazine "Nature"; 1-MNA research was also conducted at Harvard University.

A few months ago, Dr.Michał Chudzik, Ph.D., a cardiologist and internist from Łódź, became interested in the molecule, creator and coordinator of the STOP-COVID program - coordinated cardiological care for patients after COVID-19 disease. For over a year, he examined over 2.5 thousand. convalescents with various complications, referred to as long Covid.

According to the observations, people recovering from SARS-CoV2 infection most often complain of chronic fatigue, extensive muscle pain and weakness - these ailments concern up to about 70 percent. convalescents. They can lead to the so-called chronic fatigue syndrome, which significantly reducesthe body's efficiency.

"Even a young patient after suffering from a coronavirus infection may feel a strong decline in form, and activities that have not made him effortless, such as climbing stairs, running to a bus or playing sports, suddenly become a problem for him" - explains Dr. Michał Chudzik.

In his opinion, in the case of survivors, the most effective is a comprehensive program of pocovid rehabilitation, including work on physical condition, psychological and dietary support. After its implementation, 80-90 percent. patients recover very quickly. As part of the program, the doctor uses modern methods, e.g. mitochondrial therapy, which strengthens the energy structures in cells.

It consists in the fact that the patient breathes air with alternating low and high oxygen content, which mobilizes the body to increase the production of red blood cells and iron. This method is used by athletes, as well as properly selected supplementation. Hence the idea to try 1-MNA, called "sport in a nutshell" on convalescents.

"We know that 1-MNA is formed as a result of metabolic changes of vitamin B3, which supports the proper functioning of the mucous membranes, protects our body against attacks by bacteria and viruses, and has anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant properties. Therefore, we decided to investigate whether supplementation with 1 -MNA can improve exercise tolerance and reduce the feeling of fatigue among patients recovering from SARS-CoV-2 "- says Dr. Chudzik.

Patients undergoing rehabilitation after COVID-19 were divided into two groups: one was given the preparation with 1-MNA, the other was not. During this time, both groups also performed the recommended exercises.

After six weeks, the patients rehabilitated and taking the preparation with 1-MNA had their efficiency improved by 92%, others - by 60%, which suggests that supplementation with 1-MNA has a beneficial effect on returning to the form from before the infection coronavirus. "The results are promising, but they are still preliminary studies" - noted Dr. Chudzik.
